Aurora
When charged particles in the Sun's solar wind hit atoms in Earth's upper atmosphere energy is released in the visible portion of the spectrum. Typically this is in the Northern and Southern regions of Earth where the magnetic field is aligned to make this more likely. In the North the aurora is known as the Aurora Borealis and in the South as Aurora Australis.
